On 27 November 2024 the Art Gallery of NSW, was a fitting venue for the Book Launch of “James Fairfax – Portrait of a Collector in Eleven Objects”.
Approximately 100 guests assembled in the Fairfax Galleries to view the collection of artworks, sip champagne, listen to inspiring speeches from Elspeth Menzies (Executive Producer NewSouth Publishing), Edward Simpson (Director of The James Fairfax Foundation and Executor of the Estate of the late James Fairfax), Dr Michael Brand (Director of the Art Gallery of NSW) and to hear an extract of the book from the author, Alexander Edward Gilly.
It was an evening of reflection on the generosity of the late James Fairfax to the Art world here in Australia and to hear how Alex has encapsulated James’s life story in such a vivid and heartfelt way. The evening concluded with book signings and lots of happy memories.
